About Hourwise
Hourwise is a small independent editorial publisher covering one subject: how working hours and hourly pay are measured, and what the measurement leaves out.
What the project is
The subject is narrow on purpose. Statistics on working time are produced by several systems that were built at different times, for different purposes, and that define an hour of work in incompatible ways. A household survey asks a person to recall a number. A payroll record counts hours an employer paid for. A time-use diary reconstructs a single day in sequence. All three are published as hours of work, and they disagree in ways that are documented and, in some cases, still argued over.
Hourwise describes those systems and the research literature around them. It is published in English and written for a general reader with no background in labour statistics.
How topics are chosen
A topic qualifies when there is a published research literature to describe, when that literature contains a real disagreement or a known limitation worth explaining, and when the explanation can be given without a reader needing access to a paywalled dataset. Topics that would require speculation about individual outcomes are declined.
How sources are cited
- Researchers are named in the text, not reduced to studies show.
- Statistical programmes are named by their full title at first mention, along with the agency that runs them.
- Where a finding rests on a method with known weaknesses, the weakness is stated in the same passage as the finding.
- Numbers that cannot be traced to a published source are omitted. Hourwise does not estimate, round or reconstruct figures from memory.
- Where researchers disagree, both positions are described. Hourwise does not adjudicate open methodological questions.
What Hourwise does not do
- It does not publish testimonials, reviews, success stories or before-and-after accounts, and does not accept them.
- It does not offer consultations, coaching, advisory services or reviews of an individual situation.
- It does not provide financial, legal, tax, employment or medical advice, and nothing published here creates a professional relationship.
- It does not publish methods, systems or step-by-step programmes, and does not promise a result of any kind.
- It does not target or accept an audience under 18 years of age.
How Hourwise advertises
Advertising for this site follows the same rule as the articles. Advertisements describe what Hourwise publishes; they do not assert or imply knowledge of the situation, occupation, schedule, income or circumstances of anyone who sees them, and they do not address a presumed condition.
The destination of an advertisement corresponds to its content. An advertisement that describes an article leads to that article. Hourwise does not run advertising that promises an outcome, quotes a testimonial, uses scarcity or urgency devices, or presents editorial material as a personal message.
Corrections
Errors are corrected on the page where they appeared. A correction states what was wrong, what it now says and the date of the change; corrected text is not silently replaced. Requests for correction go to support@hourwise.online and are answered whether or not the change is made. The full policy is on the standards page.
Commercial disclosure
Hourwise publishes editorial material free of charge and may also sell written publications on the same subject. Where a paid publication exists, it is identified as paid at the point of sale, it is governed by the terms and the refund policy, and its existence does not change how a topic is covered in the free library.
Hourwise does not accept sponsored articles, paid placements or affiliate commissions, and no third party reviews or approves editorial content before publication.
Responsibility and contact
Hourwise is responsible for everything published on this domain. It operates from Brazil, holds no physical office open to visitors, and handles all correspondence by email at support@hourwise.online.
